Checking Your Application Status in the United States  

We are eager to get you on the road as quickly as possible. Here’s how our approval process works:

  • We will verify your driver’s license and identity, which typically takes only a few minutes. In some cases, it may take a little longer due to high application volume or because we need additional information from you. If that’s the case, we’ll reach out to you via email. Usually, those whose approval is delayed will hear from us within 48 hours. You can check the status of your application here.
  • Once you’re approved, download the iPhone® or Android™ app to book a trip, access vehicle location details, and unlock and lock your vehicle. 
  • We will also mail you a Zipcard, which is an access card to any Zipcar vehicle you book. It typically takes 5-7 business days for the Zipcard to arrive. Until your Zipcard arrives, make sure to only book cars and trips where your cell phone has good connectivity.

If you are joining through a business or affiliate, the application process may take a little longer.

  • We'll need to review your driving record which typically takes a day, but in some cases it may take a little longer. Once you're approved (or if we need further information) we'll reach out to you via email. You can check the status of your application here.
  • We will also mail you a Zipcard, which is an access card to any Zipcar vehicle you book. It typically takes 5-7 business days for the Zipcard to arriveYou will need to receive your Zipcard before you can book and drive.
