How do I edit, extend, or shorten my booking?

To edit your booking, we recommend using the Zipcar mobile app on iPhone® or Android™ devices. You can edit your booking any time before or during your trip. Once your trip has ended, changes are no longer possible.

Quick Extensions

Quick extensions allow you to easily add 30-minutes to 2-hours of additional time to your trip if the vehicle is available. Follow the steps below to quickly extend the duration of your trip.

  1. To extend your booking by up to two hours, navigate to the Drive tab in the Zipcar app and tap the Extend button.

  2. To extend trip, select an available time frame (greyed-out times mean the car is unavailable), then tap Confirm and Pay to complete the extension.

Precise Extensions

If you need more granular control over the additional time you need added to your trip, you can specify the precise end time you need. Follow the steps below to adjust the end time of your trip.

  1. Go to the Trips tab and select View Details under your active or upcoming trip.

  2. Once on the trip screen, tap Edit Trip to make changes.

  3. Select the Drop-Off Time to open the time selection wheel for your trip.

  4. You can edit the return date and time—if available—up to 14 days from the start of your reservation.

  5. Once you select an available time frame, tap Update to adjust your trip.

Keep In Mind

  • If the car appears unavailable, it means you cannot book that time frame, and the car must be returned by your scheduled reservation end time.
  • If you have text alerts enabled in your notification settings, you can extend your trip by replying to us via SMS
