How to set up a Family Plan

Zipcar's Family Plan offers a discounted way to share Zipcar with your family or loved ones. Members of your family plan can book trips using your default payment method and receive 50% off standard membership rates* which are billed to your default payment method. You can add or remove drivers from your membership plan and update their damage protection at any time.

How to add drivers to your Family Plan

  • Sign into your account page here.
  • Under Manage your account, click on People tab.
  • Select + Add member to invite drivers to join your family plan.
  • Enter the driver’s email, select the Damage Protection plan you want them to have and then click Send invite.
  • Once your drivers accept and are approved, they can begin booking trips on your account using the Family Plan as their payment method.

*Discounts may vary depending on your membership rate plan. University and Business membership plans do not qualify for this offer.

Note

  • The Family Plan is currently only available in the United States and it is not available for University or Business membership plans.
  • All membership fees and trips will be billed to the default method on your account.
  • If the driver you are adding is new to Zipcar, a $25.00 one-time application fee may apply.
  • If the driver you are adding already has a Zipcar membership, you can still invite them to be a driver on your account.
  • If you remove a driver from your Family Plan, any upcoming trips scheduled for that driver will be cancelled. Cancellation fees may apply, and you will not be refunded any membership or damage protection fees that have occurred before the end of your billing cycle.

How to add drivers to your existing account

  • Let the new driver know the email address you have on file as they will need it to find your account when applying. Once their application is submitted you will receive an email with instructions on how to approve them as a driver on your account.
  • What the new driver will need to do:
    • If they are not currently a Zipcar member:
      • Click here.
      • Under Join as an individual, select I've been invited to join an existing account. and enter the email address associated with the account.
      • Once found, they will be taken through the application process.
      • Once their application has been submitted, you will be able to approve the request to join the account. When the request is approved, the application will be processed by Zipcar.
    • If they are already a Zipcar member:
      • Sign into their account here
      • On their account page, go to my info and select join another account.
      • Under join as an individual, select I've been invited to join an existing account and enter the email address associated with the account. Once found, they will be taken through the application process.
      • Once their application has been submitted, your will be able to approve the request to join the account. When the request is approved, the application will be processed by Zipcar.

Note:

  • All membership fees and trips will be billed to the default method on your account.
  • If the driver being adding is new to Zipcar, a $25.00 one-time application fee may apply.

For Business membership plans in the United States or Canada:

How to invite drivers to join an existing Zipcar for Business account

What you’ll need to do:

  • Let the new drivers know that Zipcar is available at your organization. Once their applications are submitted, you will receive an email with instructions on how to approve them as drivers on your business account.

What the new drivers will need to do:

  • If they are not currently a Zipcar member:
    • Find your business here and sign up through that account.
    • Once their application has been submitted, the account holder will be able to approve the request to join the account. When the request is approved, the application will be processed by Zipcar.
  • If they are already a Zipcar member:
    • Sign into their account here.
    • On their account page, go to my info and select join another account.
    • Under join as an individual, select I want to join my company’s existing account and search for the name of your organization. Once found, they will be taken through the application process.
    • Once their application has been submitted, the account holder will be able to approve the request to join the account. When the request is approved, the application will be processed by Zipcar.
