Mobile Unlock Update
Please note that if you joined Zipcar after May 1, 2020 in the United States, you do not need to wait for or activate your Zipcard to book a trip – you can unlock and lock Zipcars using the Zipcar iPhone® or Android™ app.
We will still mail you a Zipcard, which is an access card to any Zipcar vehicle you reserve. We recommend you bring the Zipcard with you on all trips once you receive it, just in case you are in an area with limited signal or your phone runs out of battery. It takes up to 5-7 business days for the Zipcard to arrive.
Until your Zipcard arrives, make sure to only book cars and trips where your cell phone will be in connectivity.
Activating Your Zipcard
If you are joining in Canada or with a Business account, you will still need to activate your Zipcard before you can book a trip.
You can activate by clicking here. Once signed into your account, be sure to click Activate Zipcard after entering the number so you can start reserving.
Zipcards cannot currently be activated using the Zipcar mobile app.
I Haven't Received My Zipcard
If you joined Zipcar after May 1, 2020 in the United States, you do not need your Zipcard to get out and drive. Download the Zipcar iPhone® or Android™ app to book a trip, access vehicle location details, and unlock your Zipcar. Once you arrive at the car, use the app to unlock and lock your vehicle. Until your Zipcard arrives, make sure to only book cars and trips where your cell phone will be in range.
If you need a Zipcard for your trip, first check that your mailing address is up to date. If the address on your account is not up to date, log into your account page to update. Once your address has been changed, select the Contact Us button below to request a new Zipcard.
If it has been more than 7 business days since your Zipcard was sent, select the Contact Us button below to request a new one.
If you live in Canada or joined through a Business account, you will need to wait for your Zipcard before booking your first trip. Zipcards can take several days to arrive.
I Lost My Zipcard
If you lose or damage your Zipcard, verify your address is correct on your account page and request a replacement card using the Contact Us button below.
Once a Zipcard is requested, it will take several days to arrive by mail. For most members, until you receive and activate your new card, you won't be able to reserve Zipcars.
We're happy to provide one free Zipcard each year. Additional replacement cards are $15 each and will be billed directly to your account.
Your account must be in good standing to receive a replacement Zipcard (no current balance, up-to-date license information, and a clear membership status).
