Members who comply with the membership contract are covered by Zipcar physical damage insurance on the Zipcar vehicle while driving a Zipcar. In the case of an incident, members are responsible for a damage fee of up to the first $1,000 of damage to the Zipcar vehicle, and all further Zipcar vehicle damage is covered by Zipcar insurance.
The damage fee can be reduced or eliminated with the purchase of optional damage protection coverage.
Zipcar insurance also includes secondary third-party liability coverage and, where required, Personal Injury Protection (PIP) or "no-fault" coverage. All third-party liability and PIP coverage meets the minimum requirements of the state or jurisdiction in which an accident occurs, and coverage is only available after a member has exhausted any other applicable coverage. To see the details of your third-party liability coverage, please read the "Third Party Liability" section of the Zipcar membership contract.
Keep In Mind
- Coverage may be provided under a certificate of self-insurance, insurance policy, or both
- Members who joined Zipcar on a plan affiliated with a business, university, or other entity may have different insurance coverage than what is described above
- For accident claims in Canada, members who comply with the membership contract will be protected against liability for causing bodily injury or death to others, or damaging the property of someone other than the driver and/or renter up to the minimum financial responsibility limits required by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the accident occurs, plus provincial minimum levels for other statutorily required coverages, and are subject to all its terms, conditions, and exclusions. Except where required by law to be primary, any protection provided by us shall be secondary to, and not in excess of, any applicable insurance available to you, or any other driver.
